Recently Kobe Bryant was interviewed about his future in professional basketball as well as the impact on his life after being falsely accused of a sex crime in 2003. He spoke candidly about the impact the rape allegations had on his life.

At our law firm, we know very well what being accused of a sex offense can do to the accused and to his family. When you are wrongfully accused of sexually assaulting someone, you become a “marked man” for the rest of your life. Many people will always believe that you were in fact guilty, but that you “got off” because you had an experienced lawyer.

No matter how innocent you are, when you are accused of a sex crime, the stigma never goes away. Our law firm has represented persons accused of sex crimes for over 30 years. We have seen first hand how false allegations of sexual abuse destroy families, destroy careers and make it difficult for people to move forward. Often the accused requires therapy to deal with the trauma of being “branded” a sex offender.

We wish Kobe the best as he moves on with his life. Clearly one lesson learned by Kobe from this experience is to never be placed in a situation where you could be wrongfully accused again.
