The answer is “maybe”. California law does allow terminating your obligation from registering as a sex offender under PC 290 under certain conditions. You can stop the insanity, and seek termination of your obligation to register under these situations:

1- Seek a certificate of rehabilitation. If you qualify and if granted by a superior court Judge, it could result in stopping sex registration.
2- Seek a Governor’s Pardon. If you qualify, a Pardon will immediately stop your obligation from registration.
3- File a motion under People v. Hofsheier. The law has changed and certain crimes that were mandatory registration have now become merely discretionary. Thus, under certain circumstances that would prevent you having to register as a sex offender in the future if this motion is granted.
4- If you were not a US Citizen when you plead guilty to the crime, you may be able to set aside your conviction if the Judge did not advice you of the immigration consequences of your plea. If this is done under 1016.5 PC, you would no longer have to register as a sex offender.
