Man Arrested in San Bernardino for Sexual Assault

A Redlands man was arrested last week in connection with the sexual assault of two women in San Bernardino. Jeffrey Betcher, 36, was located in the morning hours at the home of a relative in the Yucaipa area and taken into custody without incident as is being held on $1 million bail.

Apparently on Thursday at about 2:00 a.m., the two women who were at Bailey’s bar in Yucaipa tried unsuccessfully to reach someone to give them a ride home. The alleged victims accepted a ride from someone they met through a friend. However, instead of taking them home, the man drove them to another area and sexually assaulted both of them and left them stranded.

The women contacted a passing motorist who called the police and stayed with the two women until they arrived.

Rape is an act of sexual intercourse accomplished with a person not the spouse of the perpetrator, under any of the following circumstances:

• Where it is accomplished against a person’s will by means of force, violence, duress, menace, or fear of immediate and unlawful bodily injury on the person or another.

Penalties for Rape in California

Rape is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for three, six, or eight years.

Any person who commits an act of sodomy when the act is accomplished against the victim’s will by means of force, violence, duress, menace, or fear of immediate and unlawful bodily injury on the victim or another person shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for three, six, or eight years.
